Retrofit Roofing Fastener for Heavy Gauge Purlins | High-Strength Steel with Cathodic Epoxy Coating
The #12 Dekfast Purlin Fastener is purpose-built for retrofit roofing applications requiring penetration into heavy-gauge steel purlins. Its low-profile pancake head ensures minimal membrane distortion, while the #3 square drive delivers superior bit engagement and installation stability.
Manufactured with a specialized drill-point geometry and 24 TPI thread, this fastener easily drills and taps into 18-gauge through 1/4" purlin steel, minimizing walking and ensuring strong pull-out values. A high-performance cathodic epoxy e-coat finish provides excellent corrosion resistance in roofing environments.
Key Features:
- #3 Square Drive: Extra-stable bit connection reduces cam-out and stripping
- Pancake Head: Low-profile design for minimal distortion under membrane or cover board
- Specialized Drill Point: Prevents fastener walking and provides chip clearance before thread engagement
- 24 TPI Thread: Optimized for metal-to-metal connections with excellent pull-out strength
- Corrosion Protection: Cathodic epoxy e-coat tested to 800 hours salt spray and 15/15 Kesternich (FM 4470)
Material Strength:
- Tensile: 2,300 lbf
- Torsional: 100 lbf∙in
Pull-Out Strength (Steel Substrates):
- 12 Ga (2.6 mm): 1,477 lbf
- 14 Ga (1.9 mm): 869 lbf
- 16 Ga (1.5 mm): 599 lbf
- 18 Ga (1.2 mm): 424 lbf
- 3/16" (4.8 mm): 2,300 lbf* (tensile failure)
- 1/4" (6.4 mm): 2,300 lbf* (tensile failure)
*Indicates fastener broke before substrate pull-out – a measure of extreme holding power.
Application:
- Roofing retrofit systems where insulation and membrane need secure attachment to heavy-gauge steel purlins
Tools Required: 1,800–2,500 rpm screw gun with depth-sensing nosepiece and Square #3 bit (included in carton)
Approvals: Florida Building Code Approved (FL20311)
Ideal For:
Roofing contractors performing retrofit projects involving thick purlin steel where high-strength, low-profile fasteners are critical to system performance and code compliance.
